One Eye Open represents the conflict between the rational mind and the spiritual soul. I practice mindfulness meditation, which has brought me tremendous inner peace and freedom. However, as a software developer and a highly analytical/rational individual, I demand evidence for my convictions. These two dragons of my psyche are always at war. If you look closely at the woman’s left eye, you’ll see that it’s not really closed. It’s peaking through the lid oh so subtly. She wants to be absorbed fully in the experience of her meditation, and a casual glance makes it appear she is so, but it’s a carefully crafted façade. Always skeptical, forever questioning, she can’t bring herself to shut her eyes completely and just accept the experiential truth she feels deep within. This is the plight of the rational mind. This is my struggle.
